Karolinska Institute is recognized as one of the top medical universities in the world. At the department there is an extensive collaboration with external partners such as World Health Organisation, Stockholm County Council, Swedish International Development Authority (SIDA), and the National Institute of Public Health. The research group focuses on life-course approaches to the study of public health and chronic diseases. Behavioural, social and biological factors in foetal life, childhood and adolescence are investigated in relation to health and chronic diseases in adulthood.

Sven Cnattingius is a Professor in Reproductive Epidemiology at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Karolinska Institute. He has a clinical background and has worked extensively within perinatal and reproductive epidemiology, including issues related to foetal programming. He has a long experience of using Swedish research registers.

Further, a postdoctoral fellow from Karolinska Institute is involved in the project.
